The demolition of a local landmark is always a bit sad.
Tower House has been an icon of the Queen's University campus since... well, since before anyone can remember. For at least the last decade, it's been leased to students, and while the successive tenants have tried to keep the place up to par, there's not much that student renters can do about a landlord that fails to perform the most basic maintenance on minor cosmetic fluff, like the roof or the windows.
So the place has been gradually falling apart, and the old house must now make its final stand in the face of a demolition team. By this time next year, an undergraduate dorm will be under construction to replace Tower House and the adjacent houses, two of which were torn down this week.
