Off-axis flash

Two shots for you today, of our lovely new Great Pyrenees, "Buddy".

There's only one small difference in setup and camera equipment between the images. And it's a ridiculously simple one.

Have you figured it out?

The difference is a $20 TTL extension cable, that allows you to hold the flash off to the side while keeping the usual automatic flash metering. Simply moving the flash off-axis does wonders for the texture in Buddy's coat and the shadows on his face. Simple, cheap, easy, and a dramatic improvement in the resulting image.
